Preserve, Teach, and Build

The Grand Prairie Historical Organization (GPHO) is here to discover, interpret, and preserve the varied experiences of life in Grand Prairie, Texas. The Members of our organization that are dedicated to this mission are the reason we are a growing organization.

Working as both historians and qualified, highly motivated non-professionals, our membership represents the people of Grand Prairie that want to pass on and preserve the History of our town. Many have been here for years, and others are new to the town but still have that passion for preserving history.

The GPHO provides several outlets for this, including a quarterly meeting and newsletter. Our meeting programs are informative issues on the history of Grand Prairie and surrounding areas.

Currently the GPHO museum is located at 1516 W. Main St., but we are in the process of looking for a new location to grow and display memorabilia and artifacts that relate to the city’s history. In conjunction with the City, you are going to see a big change in the way we organize and display historic artifacts, as well as a growing membership base.

Just as important as researching and interpreting historical data is the act of preserving it.Our understanding of history would be greatly diminished without these documents, items, and experiences being safeguarded. Here, we—as well as future generations—owe a great debt to past and future generations to preserve the artifacts left by past generations.

I encourage any of you who have or know of letters, photographs, or even stories that relate to Grand Prairie, please contact us or take steps to preserve them. They are invaluable.

Additionally, we are a 501© (3) tax exempt organization. Please consider the Organization as an important part of your charitable planning.

In the future I hope you will see the society as more than simply activities and programs, but as people working toward discovering, interpreting, and preserving Grand Prairie. If you are not a member, please consider joining us. If you are a member, thank you for your interest and service. To all, please consider attending one of our quarterly meetings which are held the third Thursday in February, May, August and November.

Hope to see you all at one of our future meeting.
