We meet quarterly (Feb., May, Aug., & Nov.) at the Ruthe Jackson Center.
See our newsletter for program details.
Please join us for lunch beginning at 11:30 followed by our program.

Our August meeting is August 18th at 11:30a.m..
Location: GPHO Museum, 1516 W. Main, Grand Prairie

Our speaker is going to be Dan Smith, who is working on a book documenting the route of the Bankhead Highway through Texas.

The Bankhead highway was the second transcontinental auto route in the United States. It opened for traffic in Texas in the 1920’s. A good stretch of the original road can still be seen in Grand Prairie. Mr. Smith will tell us where we can go to see that portion of the road and where it cut through Grand Prairie.

In the May issue of Texas Highways magazine, Gene Fowler did a great article on the Bankhead, interviewing Mr. Smith. It gives some background of the highway.

Mr. Smith is going to give a talk on his research, which will be interesting considering the Bankhead came through Grand Prairie. We will meet at the newly renovated GPHO Museum, 1516 W. Main St (Bankhead Highway) on August 18th at 11:30.

RSVP: Angela Giessner

See you there!
